Michigan Storms Flip Planes, Rip Roofs Apart Across State
We had one of those classic Michigan weather days Monday, where everything looked fine one minute, then suddenly the sky turned black and severe storms rolled through the state. A line of thunderstorms packed with winds topping 70 miles per hour in some areas left damage reports piling up fast.
High Winds Cause Major Damage Statewide
We’re talking flipped airplanes at Lansing’s airport, roofs getting ripped apart, trees crashing onto cars, and power outages hitting nearly 100,000 homes and businesses by early evening according to MLive.

Even the National Weather Service office near Grand Rapids lost shingles during a 75 mile per hour wind gust, which tells you just how intense this storm system really was.
Michigan Residents Deal With Hail And Falling Trees
One of the wildest stories came out of Woodland in Barry County, where part of the Lakewood Early Childhood Center was damaged during the storm. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, and children were not in the damaged section when it happened. Up north, several areas also dealt with hail while outdoor warning sirens sounded across parts of the state.
It’s another reminder of how quickly Michigan weather can change this time of year. One minute it’s warm and sunny, the next people are chasing patio furniture down the street and staring at giant tree limbs in the driveway.
